The Giyas: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

Harbor Star Shipping Services Inc. has been awarded a critical contract for the salvage and refloating of the bulk carrier 'Giyas'. This vessel ran aground on May 9, 2026, near Araceli, Palawan, while carrying a substantial cargo of 71,130 metric tons of Indonesian coal. The unfortunate grounding occurred on a sea mound known as the Queen of the Sea Bank, which caused damage to the ship's bow and led to flooding in both port and starboard ballast tanks. Fortunately, marine pollution has been avoided and the structural integrity of the vessel is intact. In response to this incident, Harbor Star plans to mobilize resources for temporary repairs and cargo discharge. The operation will also involve the deployment of three tugboats, a landing craft tank, two barges, and necessary oil spill response equipment as they prepare for the vessel's eventual refloating.

A new time charter has been successfully secured by ECTP, with delivery scheduled between May 25 and May 30 in East Coast South America. The arrangement includes a highly competitive daily rate of $14,600, alongside a ballast bonus of $460,000. The redelivery is set to occur within the Singapore-Japan range, further enhancing the appeal of this agreement.
