Gleamstar Bulk Carrier Successfully Refloated and Docked in San Nicolas
The bulk carrier "Gleamstar" has been successfully refloated as of August 25, 2023, at 11:15 a.m. Following its refloating, the vessel made its way to San Nicolas de Los Arroyos, where it docked on August 26 at 5:50 a.m. In response to the situation, the Argentine Coastguard granted permission for vessels navigating the area with a draft of up to 8.7 meters. This clearance was issued around 1:30 p.m. the same day. Meanwhile, dredging operations were being conducted by the dredger "Nunez" in the vicinity of river kilometer 316 to 317. Additionally, a new bathymetric survey was conducted on August 26 to assess the navigational conditions.
Grounding Incident Involving Gleamstar on Paraná River
On August 24, 2018, at 12:50 p.m., the vessel Gleamstar experienced a grounding incident on the Paraná River at kilometer marker 317. The ship was navigating upstream from Santa Marta to San Nicolas when it became lodged and blocked the river's fairway at the coordinates 33° 29.67' S and 059° 54.92' W. To assist in refloating the beleaguered ship, the tugs Brutus (MMSI: 701006670) and Tmbador 1 (MMSI: 701006569) were dispatched from Rosario in the early hours of August 25.
