Malaysian Authorities Detain 'Queen Harmony' for Illegal Anchoring
On March 17, 2025, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) took action against the bulk carrier 'Queen Harmony', detaining the ship around 3:30 p.m. The vessel was found illegally anchored approximately 13 nautical miles northwest of Pulau Jarak. It lacked the necessary anchor permit from the Malaysian Marine Department and failed to report its entry into Malaysian waters. The MMEA is pursuing an investigation under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance of 1952, which could result in a hefty penalty of approximately $21,000 USD or a potential two-year imprisonment for those responsible. Additionally, neglecting to report its arrival could incur an extra fine nearing $1,050 USD. The 'Queen Harmony' is under the command of an Egyptian captain and staffed by a diverse crew of 20 members, including one Russian, two Ukrainians, and 17 Filipinos. Two crew members have been detained at the MMEA Perak Headquarters for further questioning as investigations continue.
