Glovis Champion Incurs Riverbank Incident While Navigating Paraná River

Dec 17, 2025 18:31

On November 27, 2025, while traveling from Montevideo to Zárate, the vehicle carrier 'Glovis Champion' encountered an unfortunate incident along the Paraná River. The vessel strayed too close to the riverbank, resulting in it hooking a buoy near Zárate. This contact caused scratches and a puncture above the waterline on the ship's starboard side. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries or environmental spills following the event. The Argentinian Coast Guard promptly attended to the situation, assessing the damaged kilometer marker and facilitating its replacement. After a brief stay, the 'Glovis Champion' resumed its voyage, departing Zárate on November 30 and successfully arriving at its next destination in Vitoria on December 7. Vessel Grounding Near Emden Port Causes Disruption

Mar 10, 2020 11:19

On the evening of March 8, 2020, at 7:15 p.m., the car carrier 'Glovis Champion' encountered difficulties, running aground close to the entrance of the Emden port during its departure. Despite the efforts of two assistance tugs, the vessel remained stuck due to challenging currents in the area. Fortunately, as the tide began to rise, the tugs successfully maneuvered the 'Glovis Champion' back into the fairway. Following the incident, the ship returned to port for a thorough survey and investigations led by the police. In response to the grounding, the Ems traffic control authority, alongside the relevant transport trade association, imposed a sailing ban to ensure safety. The ship eventually departed Emden on March 9 at 11:40 p.m., setting its course toward Bremerhaven, where it is expected to arrive on March 11.
