On September 7, 2018, the vehicle carrier 'Glovis Chorus' faced a precarious situation at Berth 100 in Port Elizabeth as the port was taken by surprise with gale force winds. The powerful gusts, reaching between 25 to 40 knots, posed a significant risk of the vessel breaking free from its moorings. With skillful intervention, the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) marine crew swung into action to protect the ship and its 23 crew members on board. Port tugs 'Qunu' and 'Mvezo' were promptly dispatched to assist in the critical operation. The quick response of the master, who alerted Port Control amid the threatening conditions, allowed for a marine pilot and the two tugs to stabilize the ship effectively. The entire operation, carried out under challenging conditions, was completed in approximately two hours, ensuring that 'Glovis Chorus' remained safe and secure at the quayside.
