The vessel spotted a small migrant boat and promptly notified the Spanish rescue services, Salvamento Marítimo. In response to the emergency call, the search and rescue vessel 'Salvamar Algenib' was dispatched from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Almería. The operation successfully rescued 17 men of North African descent who were found about 47 nautical miles east of Cabo de Gata (Almería). These individuals had set their sights on reaching the fishing port of Almería. Following the rescue, a Red Cross boat accompanied the migrants as they were transferred to the SAR ship, which then brought them safely to Almería's port. There, dedicated Red Cross volunteers were on hand to provide much-needed assistance to the rescued individuals.
