On Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully executed a medevac operation 12 miles off the coast of Galveston. They were alerted around 3 p.m. by the captain of the 580-foot bulk carrier, Jupiter Ace, regarding a 46-year-old crew member who was coughing blood under mysterious circumstances. In response, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston promptly dispatched a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Galveston, equipped with a 45-foot response boat and accompanied by two local paramedics. "Typically, paramedics do not accompany the boatcrew during such missions," stated Petty Officer 1st Class Jeff Linberg of Sector Houston-Galveston. "However, given the critical situation, we determined that additional medical assistance was necessary." The dedicated team was able to transfer the patient from the vessel onto the response boat swiftly. Following the successful transfer, the patient, alongside the paramedics, was taken by ambulance to Station Galveston, where he was subsequently transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch. Thankfully, he was reported to be in stable condition following the ordeal.
