On June 12, 2021, the cargo vessel 'Ugur Dadayli' answered a distress call and successfully rescued 97 migrants from a sinking dinghy in the Mediterranean Sea, specifically at coordinates 34° 56' 54.0'' N, 012° 0' E, situated east of Sfax, Tunisia. The ship, which had departed from Sfax earlier that morning and was bound for Sousse, encountered the dinghy carrying individuals from Libya, Syria, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, including women and children, in a state of emergency with water rapidly entering the vessel. The rescue operation, however, escalated into a diplomatic controversy between Malta and Tunisia regarding the responsibility for the migrants. This tension resulted in a riot aboard the ship, with migrants reportedly threatening to damage property. After extensive negotiations lasting 12 hours, the situation was deescalated thanks to intervention from the Turkish foreign ministry, leading to Malta agreeing to permit the disembarkation of the rescued individuals. Notably, the Maltese government and the Armed Forces of Malta did not publicly announce the details of this rescue and subsequent diplomatic discussions.

On January 26, 2019, the cargo ship Ugur Dadayli encountered a significant cargo shift while navigating from Bilbao to Aviles, where it was transporting a load of steel coils. Due to adverse weather conditions that forced the closure of the port in Aviles, the vessel opted to head to Gijon for refuge and to address the stowage issues. The Ugur Dadayli successfully docked in Gijon at 8:20 PM on January 28, allowing for the necessary reconditioning of its cargo.
