On the morning of April 2, 2019, at 09:30 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Idil' encountered a critical situation as it lost control during its transit through the southern region of the Istanbul Strait. The underlying issue stemmed from the ship's propeller being insufficiently submerged, leading to a lack of necessary propulsion. Initially, crew members were puzzled by the malfunction and the vessel's erratic behavior. Following the incident, 'Idil' redirected back towards the Sea of Marmara, where authorities instructed it to anchor at coordinates 40° 57.58' N 028° 54.81' E. At the time, the 'Idil' was traveling from Tuzla after undergoing maintenance, with its final destination set for Nikolaev.
