On November 27, 2018, at 6:30 PM, the LNG carrier 'Grand Elena' encountered an engine failure, resulting in an allision with a mooring dolphin at Russia's Sakhalin Energy project. The vessel, transporting 145,000 cubic meters of LNG, impacted the LNG jetty at the Prigorodnoye production complex during its departure, causing a significant breach in the port side ballast tank No. 3. Fortunately, the incident did not lead to any water ingress into the surrounding compartments or any reported injuries. In the aftermath, Berth No. 1 designated for LNG shipments was temporarily closed for inspection until the morning of November 28. The Grand Elena subsequently anchored at Prigorodnoye anchorage No. 1. Remarkably, there was no pollution associated with the incident, nor any disruption to the production activities at the site. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allision is currently underway. The tanker successfully departed from Prigorodnoye on December 23.
