Grande-Lagos Vessel Reviews and Specifications

On Friday, the Port of Antwerp celebrated the grand opening of the world's largest lock, Kieldrecht Lock (Kieldrechtsluis), with an official inauguration led by the King of Belgium. This monumental structure facilitates the seamless connection between the container terminals at the Deurganck tidal dock and the Waastland Canal. Situated in the Waasland Port area on the left bank of the Scheldt River, Kieldrecht Lock becomes the second lock in this strategic location. Previously, access to the area was limited to the Kallo Lock, which has been operational since 1979 but has struggled to meet the growing demands for capacity, size, and reliability. The inaugural event was made memorable with the presence of the Grimaldi Lines vessel, Grande Lagos, symbolically marking this significant advancement in maritime infrastructure.
