On the evening of February 20, 2017, the car carrier "Grande Senegal" experienced a significant maritime incident at Gibdocks in the port of Gibraltar. Around 6 p.m., powerful winds severed the vessel's mooring lines, prompting immediate alarms for all nearby vessels due to the forecasted high winds and gusts. In a proactive measure, both the Eastern and Western anchorages were evacuated, guiding ships out to sea. At the time, the "Grande Senegal," which was undergoing repair work, had her engine inactive, leading to her bow swinging southward and drifting within the harbour. This caused alarm among port officials, who swiftly activated emergency protocols. Fortunately, a tugboat from Resolve Marine Group, already on standby nearby, along with the pilot launch was deployed to manage the situation. Within approximately one hour, the crew successfully maneuvered the "Grande Senegal" back to safely tie her alongside dockside, with no visible damage reported to the vessel. Additionally, a barge at Coaling Island also began to swing with the tide, but a tug managed to secure it away from the berth.
