On May 30, 2016, at 07:30 a.m., the East London duty crew of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) responded to a critical medical emergency involving the bulk carrier 'Great Hope'. The rescue operation was initiated when a 44-year-old Chinese crew member experienced a severe allergic reaction due to medication. The NSRI swiftly deployed the sea rescue craft 'Spirit of Lotto' to rendezvous with the vessel, which was en route from Rio Grande to Singapore. After a successful transfer, the affected crew member was transported to a local hospital by an EMS ambulance. Medical staff provided the necessary treatment, and by May 31, he had been discharged after thorough evaluation and was set to rejoin his vessel as it continued its journey to Singapore.
