A serious maritime incident occurred on April 18, 2019, at Teesport when the bulk carrier 'Cape Mathilde' was struck by the port-side bow of the 'Gülnak'. The 'Gülnak', arriving from Ravenna, was maneuvering to dock at the Redcar Bulk Terminal on the River Tees, assisted by tugs at coordinates 54° 37.52' N, 001° 09 23' W. The collision caused a 16-meter long fracture on the port side of the 'Gülnak', leaving its anchor lodged in one of the hatches and damaging its forecastle. Meanwhile, the 'Cape Mathilde' sustained substantial damage above the waterline on the port side, with multiple breaches in the cargo holds and the main deck. Having reached Teesport from Rotterdam on April 6, she set sail for Dunkirk on May 8 and docked on May 10 at 7:30 a.m. at the Quay de Douvres for repairs. The 'Gülnak' departed from Teesport on April 29 at 11:40 a.m. and arrived at the Besiktas Shipyard in Altinova on May 12 at 8 p.m. Following repairs, the 'Cape Mathilde' left the Besiktas Shipyard on May 30 at noon and later anchored at Gebze in position 40° 45.69' N 029° 27.01' E.
