Rostock Authorities Hit 'Hadeland' with Penalty for MARPOL Violations
On July 10, 2025, the Rostock Water Police Inspectorate (WSPI) carried out an inspection of the vessel 'Hadeland', which has been docked at Rostock's fishing port since July 6. Investigators found that the disinfectant used in the ship's wastewater treatment plant was non-compliant with MARPOL regulations. During its time in port, an estimated 3 m³ of untreated ship wastewater was released into the local waters through the faulty treatment system. As a result, criminal proceedings have been initiated against the Chief Engineer responsible for the operation. The Rostock District Court has mandated a security deposit of €3,000 from the ship's management. As of July 14, the 'Hadeland' remained docked in the port as legal actions unfold.
Intoxicated Captain Grounds Hadeland Twice Near Riga
On the evening of August 3, 2019, the vessel 'Hadeland' encountered a troubling incident as it set sail from the port of Riga at approximately 8 p.m. During its departure, the ship ran aground not once, but twice. After the initial grounding, the crew managed to refloat the vessel by its own means; however, just moments after resuming its journey, 'Hadeland' struck the ground again.
