Navig8 Tourmaline Faces Engine Issues in Dutch Waters

Feb 27, 2019 11:14

On February 25, 2019, the vessel 'Navig8 Tourmaline' encountered an engine-related issue while navigating through the Terschelling - German Bight traffic separation scheme at approximately 3:40 AM, positioned at coordinates 53°38'36'' N and 005°05'00'' E. Upon detecting a potential malfunction in its main engine's cylinder oil lubricator, the ship's crew executed a controlled halt of the propulsion system to investigate the alarm. Fortunately, weather conditions were optimal, and there were no immediate navigational hazards present. In an effort to ensure safety, the ship's command collaborated with the Den Helder Coast Guard's technical operators to implement a cautious approach, which involved slowing the vessel down and anchoring at a secure location after departing from the Traffic Separation Scheme. The engine team, along with the technical superintendent, conducted a thorough examination of the lubrication system to address the alarm. To eliminate any further risks, a decision was made to replace the faulty cylinder oil lubricator with a spare part. After completing a manufacturer-recommended test, the 'Navig8 Tourmaline' successfully resumed its journey from Emden to Point Lisas within three hours, with an estimated time of arrival set for March 3.
