Hav Grouper Detained at Muuga Port Due to Safety Violations
On October 24, 2025, the vessel 'Hav Grouper' faced detention at Muuga Port following a thorough safety inspection. The inspection encompassed various critical areas including the accommodation quarters, galley, cargo holds, engine room, navigation bridge, decks, forecastle, and steering room, alongside an observed fire drill. Two significant deficiencies were identified during this evaluation, with one categorized as serious enough to warrant the vessel's detention: the records documenting the daily work or rest hours of seafarers were found to be inaccurate. Fortunately, after addressing these issues, 'Hav Grouper' was released on October 27, 2025, and set sail towards Gdansk, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) of October 29. Federal Police Inspect 'Hav Grouper' Amid Suspicions of Sabotage
On August 9, 2025, the Federal Police's vessel 'Bad Bramstedt' dispatched a specialized boarding team to investigate the freighter 'Hav Grouper'. Known for its routes between ports in the North Sea and the Baltic States, this 34-year-old ship raised eyebrows after spending five days in Kaliningrad, Russia, in July. Following that port call, the 'Hav Grouper' exhibited erratic low-speed maneuvers south of Sweden's Gotland Island on August 7, a sensitive area that is home to critical underwater cables. In light of several incidents this spring, where suspicious vessels were halted by authorities in Kiel due to cable disruptions near Gotland, maritime security has tightened in these crucial waters. The Danish Navy was the first to identify the 'Hav Grouper', which was closely monitored and later boarded by the Federal Police. The 'Bad Bramstedt' trailed the freighter from Gedser through the Fehmarn Belt, eventually escorting it to its dock near Kiel. At approximately 11 a.m. on August 9, the inspection began under the mandate of the 'original performance of duties under the Federal Police Act'. Although officials have remained tight-lipped regarding the potential sabotage allegations, they underscored the importance of vigilance in these waters. On-site assistance was also provided by the Kiel Water Police aboard the patrol boat 'Sprotte', conducting checks in compliance with Marpol regulations. The thorough inspection by authorities wrapped up in under two hours, with Customs participating in the complex operation.
Progres Vessel Grounds in Goole: A Maritime Incident Reviewed
On August 1, 2014, the cargo ship 'Progres' encountered difficulties and ran aground while navigating towards the port of Goole, having departed from Riga. The vessel found itself lodged with its stern on the River Ouse, approximately half a mile downriver from Goole. Fortunately, the situation was rectified with the assistance of the Deans tug 'Shovette,' which successfully refloated the ship during the subsequent tide. As a result, the 'Progres' remained at port until August 4. For visuals of the grounding incident, you can view the photograph here: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2091265.
