Helicopter Rescue Operation for Filipino Sailor near La RĂ©union Island
On April 1, 2017, a Filipino sailor aboard the vessel 'Ikan Bagat' was airlifted due to serious medical concerns. The 38-year-old mariner experienced intense chest pain and difficulty breathing while the ship, en route from Paradip to Santos, diverted towards La RĂ©union Island for urgent assistance. At approximately 5:30 p.m., a helicopter operated by the local gendarmerie launched from Saint-Pierre and made its way to the ship, which was located about 24 kilometers offshore. The daring rescue took place just before nightfall, ensuring the patient was safely transported to FĂ©lix Guyon Hospital in Saint-Denis for further medical care.
