Ferry 'Helgøy' Back in Service Following Repairs
On November 2, the much-anticipated repairs of the ferry 'Helgøy' at Slipen Mekaniske Verksted in Sandnessjøen were successfully finalized. Subsequently, the vessel was handed back to Torghatten-Nord AS, which promptly reintegrated it into its regular sailing schedule. Following an investigation into the incident that led to its grounding on October 25, findings revealed that the 'Helgøy' did not suffer from any technical malfunctions. Instead, the unfortunate grounding was attributed to a navigational error.
Ferry 'Helgøy' Successfully Refloated and Taken for Repairs
In the early hours of October 26, at precisely 5:15 a.m., the ferry 'Helgøy' was successfully refloated after running aground near the seaward approach of Storselsøy. The lifeboat 'Ruth Opsahl' played a crucial role in this salvage operation. Thankfully, divers reported only minor damages on the vessel, consisting of minor dents and scratches. Post-salvage, the 'Helgøy' resumed its journey southward toward Nesna, ultimately docking at Westcon in Nesnastranda for repairs. Earlier, two passengers had been safely transported to Tonnes aboard the speedboat 'Rødøyloven', while the crew of four remained with the ferry throughout the operation. Due to this incident, the evening sailing from Jektvik was canceled, leaving only the speedboat 'Miss Sibella' to ferry passengers at 8:30 p.m. In the interim, the 'Røtinn' has been deployed as a temporary ferry service until further notice.
