Emergency Medical Evacuation Near Rügen Island
On October 5, 2015, an urgent medical emergency unfolded east of Rügen Island when a crew member aboard the vessel "KRistin" experienced a suspected heart attack. Prompt action was taken at 11:45 p.m. when the MRCC Bremen was notified of the situation. In response, the lifeboat "Hannes Glogner" from the DGzRS station in Sassnitz was dispatched, equipped with emergency medical personnel. Navigating calm seas, the lifeboat swiftly reached the area near the iconic Königsstuhl rock formation. The 38-year-old Swedish crew member was stabilized enough to be safely transferred onto the lifeboat. He was then transported to an ambulance upon arrival in Sassnitz, ensuring he received the essential medical care needed at the hospital.
