On May 9, 2020, while navigating the waters from Singapore to China, the bulk carrier 'Vega Aquarius' encountered a security breach. At approximately 11:45 p.m., five armed intruders were spotted on the stern deck near coordinates 01°51'01N, 104°04'48.0E, just three miles north of Pulau Nongsa. The assailants, equipped with knives, confronted a duty seaman, stealing his mobile phone during the encounter. Fortunately, the seaman managed to escape and promptly alerted the vessel's Master, who was stationed in the wheelhouse. In response, the alarm was activated, and the crew quickly assembled in the wheelhouse for safety. A thorough search of the ship followed, revealing that two sets of breathing apparatus had been taken during the incident. Additionally, it was reported that the ordinary seaman sustained a minor head injury amidst the chaos.
