On January 14, 2024, the cargo vessel 'Herbeira', sailing from Las Palmas to Rotterdam, was redirected to assist an unlit yacht spotted approximately 35 nautical miles north of La Isleta. This yacht, which was making light signals, was reported by another vessel, the 'Orinoco', to the Centro de Coordinación de Salvamento (CCS) in Las Palmas. In response to the situation, the Helimer 204 rescue helicopter was deployed and confirmed that the vessel in question was indeed a sailboat lacking lights. Fortunately, it was determined that the yacht did not require urgent assistance; the issue stemmed from an electrical fault.
