In a worrying development, two crew members aboard the vessel 'Heroic' have tested positive for COVID-19. A 55-year-old Filipino crew member tragically passed away in his cabin, while the 59-year-old Chief Engineer was swiftly airlifted to a hospital for urgent medical care. Upon the ship's arrival at Kaloi Limenes, a team of medics promptly boarded the vessel to conduct health screenings, leading to samples being collected from the crew. Shockingly, nine out of the 19 crew members on board were confirmed to have contracted the virus, raising urgent health concerns for maritime operations.

On April 18, 2021, the bulk carrier 'Heroic' anchored at Kaloi Limenes after a perilous journey from Sokhna, Egypt, traversing the Suez Canal. The ship's crew faced alarming health issues from April 16 to 17, culminating in a tragic death and an urgent medevac. Sadly, one crew member lost his life during the ordeal. Meanwhile, the Chief Engineer, a 59-year-old man, required immediate medical intervention. He was airlifted by a Greek Air Force helicopter and swiftly transported to the helipad of the General Hospital of Rhodes. An ambulance later conveyed him to the hospital for further treatment. Additional crew members have also reported health complications. In response to the incident, the Central Port Authority of Rhodes has initiated a preliminary investigation to assess the circumstances surrounding these alarming events.
