Greenpeace Activists Stage Protest on LNG Tanker in Brunsbüttel
In a bold demonstration against the import of liquefied natural gas, four Greenpeace activists ascended the side of the 'Hoegh Gannet' at the Brunsbüttel port on the evening of November 30, 2024. This LNG conversion ship became the focal point of their protest, with the activists suspending themselves from its side. Greenpeace reported that the protest involved a total of 22 individuals, including several who assembled on floating islands situated in front of the LNG terminal. Law enforcement, including police and water patrol units, quickly responded to the scene, deploying multiple patrol cars and boats to manage the situation. The initial gathering featured approximately 20 activists who approached the area using three rubber dinghies. As the morning of December 1 unfolded, most of the protesters decided to conclude their demonstration and were subsequently met by police onshore.
Germany Welcomes New Floating LNG Terminal: Hegh Gannet Arrives at Brunsbuettel
On January 20, the 'Hegh Gannet', Germany's latest floating terminal for importing liquefied natural gas (LNG), docked at the port of Brunsbuettel. This marks the third floating terminal introduced in recent weeks as Germany accelerates its efforts to shift away from reliance on its former major gas supplier, Russia. The vessel made its arrival at ElbePort promptly at 7:15 a.m. UTC, enabling LNG carriers to offload their cargo for regasification, which will subsequently be integrated into the German gas grid. The inaugural LNG shipment, sourced from Abu Dhabi National Oil, is anticipated to arrive by the end of January, further enhancing Germany's energy diversification strategy.
Höegh LNG Welcomes the Arrival of Its Largest FSRU, Höegh Gannet
Höegh LNG Holdings Ltd. has officially marked a significant milestone with the delivery of Höegh Gannet, its ninth floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), as announced in a recent press release. This state-of-the-art vessel boasts an impressive regasification capacity of 1 billion cubic feet (Bcf) per day, alongside a substantial storage capacity of 170,000 cubic meters (cbm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG), making it the largest FSRU to date based on capacity. Constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea, Höegh Gannet features advanced engineering, including a reinforced GTT Mark III membrane containment system and dual-fuel diesel-electric (DFDE) propulsion technology. Höegh Gannet is set to play a crucial role in Höegh LNG's ongoing tender processes for upcoming FSRU projects, which are expected to commence between 2019 and 2021. In the interim period before securing a long-term contract, the unit will engage in an LNG carrier charter with Naturgy, commencing immediately after its positioning voyage from the shipyard. This short-term contract will span 15 months, during which Höegh Gannet will operate at a fixed dayrate, reflecting trends in the historical medium-term LNG carrier market.
