Port Freeport Welcomes Historic Neo-Panamax Vessel HOEGH TARGET
Port Freeport has marked a significant milestone as it welcomed its very first Neo-Panamax vessel, the Motor Vessel HOEGH TARGET, on the evening of September 14. Executive Director/CEO Phyllis Saathoff and Port Freeport Commission Chairman Ravi Singhania were present onboard, ensuring a smooth entry for the vessel alongside the skilled harbor pilots. During this momentous occasion, a commemorative plaque was presented to Captain Shi and his crew, acknowledging this landmark visit to Port Freeport. Chairman Singhania expressed his gratitude towards Hoegh Autoliners, stating, 'It is indeed a historic day for our Port, to welcome the arrival of the first Neo-Panamax vessel that has travelled through the expanded Panama Canal.' Saathoff echoed his sentiments, exclaiming, 'It is a BIG beautiful vessel! We are proud to have a vessel of this capacity enter our Harbor.' The MV HOEGH TARGET stands out as the world's largest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), boasting an impressive capacity of 8,500 car equivalent units. This state-of-the-art vessel is designed to offer up to 6.5 meters of free deck height, a ramp width of 12 meters, and can accommodate cargo weighing up to 375 tons. The HOEGH TARGET is just the first of six Post Panamax vessels set to join the Hoegh Autoliners fleet, signaling a new era for operations at Port Freeport.

On July 2, 2015, Höegh Autoliners officially welcomed the Höegh Target, marking a milestone in maritime history as the largest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) in the world. This impressive vessel represents Höegh Autoliners’ inaugural foray into the post-Panamax category, showcasing advanced design and engineering capabilities. Over the following 18 months, the company plans to expand its fleet with an additional five vessels of a similar innovative design.
