DFDS Unveils 'Hollandia Seaways': Its Largest Ro-Ro Ship Now Connecting Gothenburg and Ghent
In an exciting development for maritime transport, DFDS has commenced operations with its newest and largest ro-ro vessel, the 'Hollandia Seaways,' on the vital route linking Ghent, Belgium, and Gothenburg, Sweden. The grand unveiling took place on December 5, 2023, at Mercatordok, as announced by North Sea Port in an official communication. The naming ceremony for the Hollandia Seaways took place on Friday in Gothenburg, marking a significant milestone in DFDS's fleet evolution. This impressive cargo ferry boasts an ability to accommodate 450 trailers, translating to an extensive cargo capacity of 6,700 line metres, complemented by its substantial length of 237.4 metres. Notably, the vessel features an 'extra floor' designed specifically for trailers, making it a prominent sight when navigating through the lock at Terneuzen and along the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. The Hollandia Seaways is set to enhance DFDS's service on this route, as it replaces one of the three existing vessels that currently operate six times weekly between Ghent and Gothenburg. With this upgrade, the route's weekly capacity will see an impressive increase of approximately 600 trailers, ensuring more efficient logistics and transportation options for customers in the region.
