Early in the morning on April 8, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m. local time, a catastrophic collision occurred between the cargo ship 'Hosel Crown' and the Vietnamese fishing vessel 'Thanh Hoá-TH 92686 TS' in the Gulf of Bắc Bộ, off the coast of Hải Phòng. The 'Hosel Crown', which was en route from Chua Ve port in Hải Phòng to the Philippines, struck the fishing boat, causing it to sink rapidly. The wooden fishing vessel had been at sea since April 8, engaged in the procurement of fish, and was heading back to Thanh Hoa when disaster struck. Alarmed by the captain's urgent calls for evacuation, the crew, who were resting below deck, rushed to the surface as the vessel began to submerge. They donned life jackets and desperately signaled for help, hoping the 'Hosel Crown' could notice their plight. In response to the emergency, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (VMRCC) quickly mobilized resources, instructing the cargo ship to drop buoys and initiate a search operation for the twelve crew members aboard the fishing vessel. The rescue ship 'SAR 411' launched from Haiphong, joined by nearby boats to assist in the search efforts. Additionally, local authorities were engaged for coordination, while the National Civil Defense Steering Committee and the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration were notified to oversee the rescue operation. By around 9:10 a.m., the combined efforts of the search teams led to the rescue of eight fishermen from the waters, but sadly, four crew members were recovered deceased, including the captain. The survivors were transported aboard 'SAR 411' to Hai Phong’s Central Pier before being handed over to local authorities for further support.
