A devastating workplace accident claimed the life of a fisherman aboard the fishing vessel 'Hovden Viking' on the morning of March 2, 2021. The incident occurred while the ship was engaged in fishing operations off the coast of Senja, specifically near Grimsbakken, which is located 18 nautical miles from the port town of Husøy. Emergency response was swift; a rescue helicopter carrying a medical professional was dispatched to the scene. Sadly, upon arrival, the crew confirmed the fisherman had already succumbed to his injuries. Following the accident, the 'Hovden Viking' made its way back to Senjahopen, where police boarded the vessel to initiate an investigation into the tragic event. Authorities have also notified the relatives of the deceased. Additionally, the crisis management team from Senja municipality was present in Senjahopen to provide support.
