The dredging vessel Ibn Battuta, one of seven Cutter Suction Dredgers (CSDs) deployed by Jan De Nul Group, has made significant strides in the Suez Canal expansion project. According to IAA PortNews, Ibn Battuta is the first dredger to reach the designed depth of 24 meters along the canal's 34.5-kilometer stretch. Currently, the vessel is engaged in dredging activities at an impressive rate of over 200,000 cubic meters per day. Jan De Nul's fleet is executing a major dredging contract as part of the Suez Canal expansion initiative in Egypt, collaborating with other prominent dredging companies such as National Marine Dredging Company, Boskalis, and Van Oord, under the Challenge Consortium. The contract encompasses the dredging of a substantial 200 million cubic meters of various materials, including sand, stiff clay, and limestone.
