Working Conditions Aboard the Ilida-Dolphin

On June 23, 2025, a mechanical issue was reported concerning the starboard main engine of the hydrofoil 'Ilida Dolphin.' This incident occurred while the vessel was navigating 2.2 nautical miles southeast of Corfu, as confirmed by the Port Authorities of Corfu and Paxos, following communication from the Greek Coast Guard. The 'Ilida Dolphin' was on a routine journey from Gaiou, Paxos to Corfu, carrying a total of 97 passengers and six crew members. Despite the engine failure, the hydrofoil managed to arrive at the port of Corfu without external assistance, ensuring the safe disembarkation of all aboard. In light of this event, the Central Port Authority of Corfu has prohibited the vessel from setting sail again until it submits a class maintenance certificate from the designated monitoring classification society.

On August 5th, maritime authorities in Corfu and Poros reported an incident involving the hydrofoil 'Ilida Dolphin', which experienced a malfunction in its starboard main engine while traveling from Paxos to Corfu. The vessel, carrying 70 passengers and a six-member crew, managed to continue its journey at reduced speed and eventually reached Corfu port without any passengers sustaining injuries. Upon arrival, local ship inspection officers and the Central Port Authority of Corfu conducted a thorough examination. They subsequently imposed a sailing ban on the ferry until necessary repairs are completed and a maintenance certificate from the relevant classification society is presented.

On July 21, 2024, the Port Authority of Corfu was alerted by the captain of the hydrofoil 'Ilida Dolphin' regarding a significant vibration detected on the starboard side while navigating the waters near Lefkimmi. The vessel was operating on a regular route from Gatou port in Paxos to Corfu, carrying 95 passengers and a crew of six. Fortunately, the 'Ilida Dolphin' successfully made it to Corfu harbor, where all passengers disembarked without incident. In response to the situation, the Central Port Authority of Corfu has prohibited the ferry from sailing until it completes necessary repairs and presents a certification of class maintenance and seaworthiness from the designated classification society.
