Bulk Carrier 'Ince Inebolu' Resumes Voyage After Rocket Damage Repairs in Gizan

Jun 27, 2018 10:40

The bulk carrier 'Ince Inebolu' set sail from Gizan on June 25 at 10 p.m. following extensive repairs to rocket-inflicted damage. The vessel's repairs included crucial steel replacements and structural reinforcements conducted in line with the recommendations from the class surveyor. Previously towed to Gizan on May 13, the ship had incurred significant damage, including serious punctures and indentations on the port side above the waterline, as well as on the main deck. With all necessary repairs completed and departure clearance granted by both the local maritime authority and the classification society, 'Ince Inebolu' is now back on its journey.

Saudi Military Confirms No Smuggling Link in Ince Inebolu Explosion

May 24, 2018 09:17

On May 21, Colonel Turki al-Maliki, the spokesperson for the Saudi military coalition engaged in Yemen, provided key insights regarding the recent explosion aboard the bulk carrier 'Ince Inebolu.' The Colonel stated unequivocally that there is no evidence to suggest that the explosion was the result of explosives smuggled onto the vessel. According to the investigation, the blast originated from the vessel's top tank number 3, leading to significant structural damage and creating a large breach in the hull. Prior to the incident, crew members reported detecting an approaching boat on radar, which was observed closing in on the bulk carrier from approximately four miles away, before retreating after the explosion. Further suspicions have been raised by prosecutor Yemes, who indicated that Houthi rebels may have been behind the attack. Following the explosion, Saudi forces swiftly intervened, escorting the damaged ship to the port of Gizan. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the crew. The operating company, Ince Shipping, has insisted that the cause of the explosion was a missile that penetrated the outer hull before detonating within the vessel. Additionally, the 'Ince Inebolu' has previously undergone scrutiny by the U.N. Verification, Inspection and Monitoring (UNVIM) to check for any smuggling of weapons or explosives. At the time of the explosion, the bulk carrier was transporting a cargo of Russian wheat destined for the port of Saleef.

Missile Strike on 'Ince Inebolu' Causes Devastating Explosion

May 17, 2018 18:17

The Turkish-owned cargo vessel 'Ince Inebolu' was struck by a missile off the coast of Saleef, resulting in a significant explosion last week. This revelation comes after an assessment by Ince Shipping Group, the conglomerate behind the vessel, which confirmed that the missile impacted the ship’s port side, breaching cargo hold number three before detonating inside the vessel and inflicting substantial damage to its hull. Following the incident, Saudi Arabian naval forces assisted in towing the damaged ship to the port of Gizan. At the time of the attack, 'Ince Inebolu' was poised to deliver Russian grain and had received clearance from UN officials to proceed with its mission.
