An oil leak from the cargo ship 'Nauma' has raised concerns in Fremantle, with local authorities estimating that the clean-up operation could span several days and cost upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The incident occurred on January 12, 2019, at around 1 a.m. at Berth 11, located at the northeastern section of the inner harbour, as oil began to seep from the vessel. Emergency response teams quickly deployed absorbent booms at both ends of the ship in an effort to contain the significant leak, which originated from a strainer box linked to the vessel's sea chest. Fremantle Ports Authority officials indicated that the situation was under control by that afternoon, and they commended the crew of the 'Nauma' for their prompt cooperation.
