Blaze Erupts in Engine Room of 'Industrial Challenger' in Çanakkale Strait
On June 16, 2025, the 'Industrial Challenger' encountered a significant emergency when a fire ignited in its engine room while navigating off Kumkale in the Çanakkale Strait, on its route from Marmara to Yalova. Following this incident, the vessel experienced engine failure and became adrift. Immediate assistance was provided by the tugs 'Kurtarma 13' (IMO: 9913573) and 'Türkeli' (IMO: 9816256), alongside the lifeboat 'Kiyem 1' (MMSI: 271042656), all coordinated by the Çanakkale Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Center. By the afternoon, the ‘Industrial Challenger’ was successfully secured at the Karanlık Liman Anchorage, located at coordinates 40° 01' N 026° 15' E, where it remained as of June 24. Following the fire incident, vessel traffic in the Çanakkale Strait was temporarily halted but was subsequently reopened in both directions after the ship was safely anchored.
