Sanmar Shipyards Unveils First Tug of New Class for Italtugs in Sicily
Sanmar Shipyards, based in Turkey, has officially launched and delivered the first vessel from a new class of Robert Allan Ltd designed ASD tugs. This impressive tugboat is set for operations at a Sicilian oil terminal, managed by Italtugs. Named Civitavecchia, the tug showcases substantial dimensions, measuring 32 meters in length overall (LOA), a beam of 13.2 meters, and a maximum draught of 6.4 meters. Underpinning its robust performance is a forward bollard pull exceeding 85 tonnes, achieved through the power of two MAN 7L27/38 main engines. Each engine generates 2,555 kW at 800 RPM, driving two Rolls-Royce type US25 CP Z-drive azimuth thrusters. The thrusters are equipped with 2,800mm diameter propellers encased in mild steel nozzles, firmly linked via solid shafts and dual Cardan joints. Alongside its remarkable bollard pull, the Civitavecchia can also reach impressive speeds of over 13 knots, marking a significant addition to the fleet and enhancing operational capabilities at the terminal.
