Working Conditions Aboard the Irma

A significant milestone for maritime logistics was reached at the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor as the M/V Irma, a 655-foot bulk carrier, made its inaugural arrival of the season. The vessel traversed over 11 days across the Atlantic Ocean, bringing with it an impressive 9,400 tons of steel coil, which it successfully unloaded on Monday. This event marks the commencement of the international shipping season for the deepwater port located on Lake Michigan. Although the port operates year-round, it experiences peak activity during the warmer months when large ocean-going ships arrive to facilitate the loading and unloading of various cargos.
