Coast Guard Rescues Crew Member with Appendicitis Near Sabine, Texas
On July 6, 2022, a notable rescue operation took place approximately 20 miles off the coast of Sabine, Texas, where the US Coast Guard successfully medevaced a 29-year-old man from the tanker 'ISabella'. The urgent medevac request came in from Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders, as the crew member was reported to be showing signs of appendicitis. After consulting with the duty flight surgeon, a decision was made to proceed with the medevac. Quick to respond, the Coast Guard dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Houston. Upon arrival at the scene, the skilled crew safely hoisted the patient aboard and transported him to Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy, Texas, where he was reported to be in stable condition following the ordeal.
