While the Italeni will not commence operations immediately, preparations are underway, including the transfer of the grab crane from the Crane to the Italeni. The ceremonial naming took place at the shipyard of MTG Dolphin in Varna, Bulgaria, with contributions from the esteemed shipbuilder IHC Merwede. This 750m3 dredger, designed and constructed by IHC Global Production, is set to enhance maintenance capabilities across South Africa's ports. The dredger measures 62 meters in length, boasts a beam of 15 meters, and has a draft of 3.9 meters, all designed with an emphasis on reducing maintenance expenses. The ‘Italeni’ is set to replace the existing dredger, 'Crane', which recently received upgrades with a new grab crane. Following its transit to Durban, South Africa, the upgraded equipment from 'Crane' will be transferred to the new vessel.
