An attempt to obscure an oil spill incident on the Mundra coast, which occurred on June 17, fell short as news of the event circulated widely on Tuesday. The spill involved high-speed diesel (HSD) leaking from the vessel Jag Anchal during unloading operations in the port's trench area. The HSD, belonging to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), was transported on a ship chartered from Great Eastern Shipping Company. Preliminary estimates suggest that between 100,000 and 1,000,000 liters of HSD, valued at approximately Rs4.4 crore, may have been discharged.
