S.R. Shipping Expands Fleet with Acquisition of Japanese Supramax
Recent reports from brokers suggest that the privately-owned Bangladeshi company S.R. Shipping is in talks to acquire the Japanese supramax vessel, Aston Trader II. This 55,000 DWT bulk carrier is part of a series of recent sales by Nisshin Shipping, which has been strategically moving away from bulkers to concentrate on its tanker business. The transaction is expected to be valued at approximately $6.8 million for the 2008-built Aston Trader II. Notably, Nisshin Shipping has been actively selling off its bulker fleet over the past six weeks and is reportedly looking to sell an additional 10 vessels. S.R. Shipping, which is affiliated with the Kabir Group—one of Bangladesh’s prominent conglomerates—currently operates a fleet that includes around 10 bulk carriers. The acquisition represents a significant step for S.R. Shipping as it continues to expand its presence in the maritime industry.

The vessel, which was in a ballast condition at the time, was successfully refloated after tugs arrived on the scene to assist. Currently, the Aston Trader II is securely moored at the Port of Stockton where it is undergoing a thorough inspection. Thankfully, there have been no reports of damages following the incident.
