Jan De Nul Advances Dredging Operations on New Suez Canal Project
Jan De Nul is achieving significant milestones in its dredging operations for the New Suez Canal Project in Egypt, having successfully dredged an impressive 200 million cubic meters of soil. As a member of the 'Challenge Consortium,' the company is focused on improving portions of the Canal that will run parallel to the existing waterway, necessitating extensive widening and deepening efforts. One of the standout performers in this endeavor is Jan De Nul's Cutter Suction Dredger, the Ibn Battuta, which has made history by being the first dredger to reach and achieve the design depth of -24 meters across a 34.5 km stretch of the new canal section. The Ibn Battuta has also set a remarkable record by exceeding a dredging capacity of 205,000 cubic meters per day. Currently, this advanced dredger is collaborating with other vessels including J.F.J. De Nul, Zheng He, and Fernão de Magalhães to tackle the more challenging sections of the project.
