Working Conditions Aboard the Jin-Yue

On November 24, 2010, the vessel 'Jin Yue' (IMO 9447469) encountered a serious incident while attempting to berth at Paradip Port, resulting in substantial damage to the ship. Fortunately, all 24 crew members aboard, who are all Chinese nationals, remained unharmed during the incident. 'Jin Yue' had just completed unloading rock phosphate and was preparing to load 52,000 metric tons of iron ore fines destined for China when the accident occurred. Despite the assistance of tugboats, the ship collided with the berth, sustaining damage primarily to its lower sections. In response to the allision, authorities from Paradip Port Trust (PPT) dispatched a surveyor to assess the extent of the damage and determine the ship's condition, allowing for cargo operations to resume once safer conditions were verified.
