On April 9, 2011, at 6:14 a.m., the vessel 'Atlantic' reported a fire onboard while positioned 50 miles west of Værøy, near the stunning Lofoten Islands. Thankfully, the crew of 15 Norwegians emerged unscathed from the incident. In response to the distress call, the Rescue Coordination Center swiftly mobilized a specialized team from the Bodø fire department, preparing to deploy a Sea King helicopter to combat the flames. Fortunately, before the helicopter could take off, the crew managed to extinguish the fire themselves. However, the 'Atlantic' faced another significant challenge, as it had lost all engine power. The Norwegian Coast Guard dispatched the 'Barents Sea' to assist, tasked with towing the disabled vessel, which was expected to arrive by 12:30 a.m. that night. At the time, the 'Atlantic' was adrift amidst five-meter high waves, with its ultimate destination port still undetermined.
