On November 22, 2017, the freighter 'Jomi' found itself in distress, drifting half a mile off Sinclair's Bay as it struggled against an easterly swell and failed to restart its engine. In response, the Wick Lifeboat was dispatched at 9:35 a.m. by the Shetland Coastguard to assist the beleaguered cargo ship. The local lifeboat quickly maneuvered to the scene, understanding the urgency of the situation as the 'Jomi' risked drifting closer to shore. In addition to the Wick Lifeboat, the Coastguard called for the own boat that was conducting sea trials following an electronics upgrade, preparing for a possible tow to safer waters. Meanwhile, the tug 'Einar' from Orkney Harbours was also summoned to provide towing assistance. The 'Einar' arrived on the scene at approximately 1:15 p.m., where it, alongside the lifeboat crew, successfully rigged a tow line and retrieved the anchors of the 'Jomi'. Once secured, the cargo vessel was towed to Scapa Flow for necessary repairs. The Wick Lifeboat returned to port by around 2:30 p.m., resuming its operational readiness after the mission. The Coastguard's emergency tug, 'Ievoli Black', also accompanied the tow, providing additional support. As the rescue convoy entered Scapa Flow, the pilot boat 'John Rae' joined the fleet, ensuring safe navigation. The 'Jomi', en route from Riga to Reykjavik with a timber cargo and a crew of six, was successfully berthed at the port of Lyness.
