The general cargo vessel Petrozavodsk remains stranded in Taganrog Bay, part of the Azov-Don Canal, following its grounding on February 4, 2023. En route from Rostov to Turkey while transporting 3,600 tons of scrap, the vessel encountered difficulties in an ice convoy and ran aground after the master miscalculated the turn from Leg 3 to Leg 4 of the canal, ending up off the designated fairway. Efforts to refloat the ship using icebreakers and tugboats have been unsuccessful thus far. Although plans to lighten the vessel were scheduled to begin on February 6, as of February 16, the Petrozavodsk remains stuck.
