On the evening of June 23, 2016, a maritime collision occurred when the cargo ship 'Simone' struck the tanker 'Patani' in the Fehmarn Belt, situated between the Danish island of Fehmarn and the Danish mainland of Lolland. Both vessels were on intersecting courses at the time of the incident. The 'Simone,' originating from Southampton and navigating via the Kiel Canal towards Nakskov, was traveling northbound, while the 'Patani' was headed eastbound, making its way from Kalundborg to Swinoujscie. Following the collision, both vessels sustained damages, though the specifics of the impairments remain unclear. The 'Simone' proceeded with its journey, docking at Nakskov Berth 2 on June 24 at 6 a.m. In contrast, the 'Patani' opted to anchor at the vicinity of the incident while assessing the situation. The 'Simone' departed from Nakskov on June 27 at 11:30 a.m., setting its course for Abenraa, with an estimated time of arrival scheduled for 10 p.m. Meanwhile, the 'Patani' successfully berthed at the Lindoe Shipyard OSS located in Vigerö, arriving at 4 a.m. on the same day. On May 7, 2015, the tanker Industrial Kennedy, carrying a cargo of steel pipes from Gibraltar to Norway, encountered engine troubles while navigating through the Atlantic between the Faroes and Shetland islands. With 13 crew members on board, the vessel experienced a turbo-charger failure, leaving it adrift approximately 170 miles northwest of Foula. While the situation was not immediately perilous, the tugboat Herakles was dispatched as a precautionary measure because of nearby oil installations. The Herakles successfully took Industrial Kennedy under tow, initially steering towards Scrabster. However, plans shifted, leading to the tanker’s arrival in Lerwick on May 9 at 6 p.m., assisted by the tug Kebister for the final leg of the journey.
