On September 3, 2019, the container ship 'Julian', which had departed from Lae, Papua New Guinea, encountered trouble when it ran aground in the Buka passage en route to the port of Buka. Fortunately, the vessel was able to refloat independently without any external assistance and successfully docked at the Buka wharf at 9:45 a.m. Following the incident, the National Maritime Safety Authority (NMSA) initiated an investigation to assess the circumstances surrounding the grounding. Additionally, the ship was scheduled for a thorough survey to confirm its seaworthiness before resuming its journey.

On June 25, 2018, the cargo vessel 'Blikur' encountered a significant incident as a turbine exploded within its engine room while navigating into Sunda­höfn, Reykjavik. The explosion generated a substantial amount of smoke, but fortunately, there was no open flame reported. Following the explosion, the 'Blikur' was initially anchored before being assisted to its berth by the tugboat 'Magni'. In the aftermath, some crew members were evaluated for potential smoke inhalation by medical staff at the National Hospital. To address the situation further, Eimskip’s Information Officer, Ólafur William Hand, was dispatched to Reykjavik on June 26 for investigative purposes. Notably, the 'Blikur' had departed from Immingham on June 22, prior to the incident.
