On the morning of April 5, 2014, a maritime incident occurred in the Aegean Sea when the cargo vessel 'Angel Alia' collided with the 'Ameland' approximately 19 miles northwest of Lesbos. During the accident, the 'Angel Alia', which was traveling empty, struck the 'Ameland' on its portside, resulting in hull breaches and damages above the waterline on both vessels' starboard sides. Thankfully, both ships maintained their seaworthiness and were allowed to continue their journeys after a swift assessment by the Greek Coastguard. The 'Angel Alia', coming from Casablanca, anchored at Tuzla on the morning of April 6, while the 'Ameland' was on its way from Istanbul to Lorient. There were no reported injuries among the crew members; the 'Ameland' had 17 Syrian sailors onboard, while the 'Angel Alia' was manned by a crew of 16 Syrians and 11 Russians.
