Ukrainian Captain Detained for Intoxication While Navigating Grachtborg in Hamburg
In a concerning incident on July 27, 2011, the 46-year-old Ukrainian captain of the vessel 'Grachtborg' was discovered to be under the influence of alcohol while maneuvering into Kuhwerder Harbour, Hamburg. The ship, which had arrived from Delfzijl, was subject to border control procedures when water police personnel detected a strong odor of alcohol on the captain’s breath. A subsequent breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 1.22 per thousand, significantly above legal limits. Fortunately, the Grachtborg was able to dock safely despite the circumstances. However, the captain now faces legal repercussions for his actions.
