The bulk carrier 'Loreto' is currently undergoing urgent hull repairs at the hands of Nautilus in Punta Arenas. The vessel found itself in distress after running aground at Paso Tortuoso on December 31, 2014, while en route from the coal pier Mina Invierno in Seno Otway to the port of Huasco in Coquimbo. The ship struck the Anson rock approximately 102 nautical miles from Punta Arenas. Following this incident, it was escorted by the Chilean Navy to the Magellan Strait, ultimately arriving in Punta Arenas on January 1, 2015. The 'Loreto' was left listing eight degrees to starboard due to breached and flooded ballast water tanks, resulting in various-sized cracks in the hull.
