Tragic Incident Aboard the KAti in Wismar: Worker Found Deceased in Cargo Hold
A somber incident unfolded on July 16, 2018, as customs officers discovered the lifeless body of a 49-year-old crew member aboard the KAti, docked in Wismar with a shipment of wood. Initial reports indicate that the man, presumed to be from Estonia, suffered from oxygen deprivation in the cargo hold, which lacked adequate breathable air. During a routine inspection, officers found the deceased individual in the cramped space, where safety measures, such as oxygen masks, were not adhered to. Investigators suspect that the worker may have fainted due to low oxygen levels, potentially after sustaining a head injury. Following the grim discovery, local authorities carried out a secondary investigation on July 17. While the KAti, identifiable by IMO number XXXX, which had recently arrived from Pärnu, was released by investigators, it remained docked in Wismar until July 18.
